The Singapore Sports Hub (SSH) Consortium has won the contract to build and run the Sports Hub for 25 years. They beat Alpine Mayreder Consortium and Singapore Gold Consortium to clinch the deal. The Singapore Sports Hub consortium is led by the France-based construction firm Dragages Singapore. The winning consortium’s proposal included a dome shaped stadium that won over the horseshoe and crumpled tissue designs from the other bidders.
The new Sports Hub at Kallang will replace the National Stadium, which gives way after 35 years in prominence. The Sports Hub, considered as one of Asia’s largest sports projects, is expected to be ready in 2011. The construction works are likely to commence in April 2008.
The Singapore Government is expected to spend about S$1.87 billion, while the consortium to expected to spend about S$1.2 billion.
