Good News for Ganguly's supporters

If you are a cricket crazy Indian fan, certainly you would not have stopped thinking about one of the most successful Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. It doesn't matter whether you support him or you are against him, you will agree that he was treated very badly. His case could have been dealt with a bit more professionalism.

In my opinion, Greg wanted to prove a point when he took over the responsibilities of the Indian coach. He was helped by Ganguly's inconsistency. Greg got through and in came Rahul Dravid, the new Indian captain. He performed admirably well after taking over the captaincy.

Now, Ganguly needs to prove a point before getting into the team. He tried to do that by blaming Dalmiya for all the chaos that surrounded his infamous dropping from the team. So, it is clearly a sign that he wants to get on with the game with the support of the coach, and keep away from Board politics.

The recent team selection to Sri Lanka is baffling. Why should they fall back to Dinesh Mongia? He was tried many times. He was not that great. I would have been happy if the selectors gave a chance to Ganguly. His experience would help in the one-day version and would be really handy in the preparations to the World cup next year.

Finally, there is some good news to Sourav's supporters. You can read the article from Deccan Chronicle which reports that "Dada may be among the probables for the Champions Trophy". Good luck Sourav!

Rahul Dravid crosses another milestone

The Indian team may be finding the going tough in the last test match against West Indies. They were bundled out for a paltry 200 runs in their first innings, after electing to bat first. From here on, Dravid may find it too difficult to save the test match and the test series.

But, as a batsman, Dravid has performed once again. His solid 81 and Kumble's 45 were the consolations in the Indian innings. I cannot think what would happen to this Team India if Rahul was not there. He slowly and steadily has moved up in the list of all-time highest run scorers in test cricket. When he scored his first run in the innings, he overtook Graham Gooch to move to the sixth place in the list.

He has now scored 8981 runs in test cricket. He is behind only to the current West Indian captain Brian Lara (11468 runs), Allan Border (11174 runs), Steve Waugh (10927 runs), Sachin Tendulkar (10469 runs) and Sunil Gavaskar (10122 runs). In my opinion, Rahul is certainly the most consistent of all these batsmen. He is averaging at 58.70 and all others are behind him; Tendulkar (55.39), Lara (52.36), Gavaskar (51.12), Waugh (51.06) and Border (50.56).

Good Luck to Dravid in the ongoing test match. I am certain that he will go a long way in terms of run scoring.

Cricket: Rain and Brian deny victory for India

Brian Lara's second innings statistics is not as good as his first innings. But, that did not stop him from carving a century against an Indian team, which tried at its best to get a lead in this ongoing test series. If it was rain that ruled on the 4th day, then it was the turn of Brian on day 5. The Indians had come so close in both the test matches, but unable to finish it off. Off to the third test match at St. Kitts on 22nd June.
