Sania Mirza makes it into the 2nd round with a straight-sets victory against 51st ranked Croatian Karolina Sprem 6-4 6-2. Sania is currently ranked No. 54 in the singles and No. 28 in the doubles. She would like to have a good tournment here so that she can crack back into the top-50 by the year end. By the way, Sania's best performance is at US open, she went upto the 4th round last year. Can she repeat it or better that record here? Sania will be playing the 14th seeded Italian Francesca Schiavone in the second round. She has also entered the Women's doubles with Liezel Huber and Mixed doubles with Pavel Vizner.
In the women's doubles, 11th seeded Sania/ Liezel Huber will be facing the US pair of Neha Uberoi/ Angela Haynes.
