DMK wins TN Assembly elections 2006

By
The DMK alliance wins the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2006 by winning 163 out of a total 234 seats. The ADMK alliance has secured 69 seats.

Finally, the Tamil Nadu people has given a verdict which leads to a coalition government for the first time in Tamil Nadu history. Can DMK survive for next 5 years? We have to wait and see. It seems certain that Congress will be joining the government and others like PMK and the Left parties will give unconditional support from outside.

Congress will use this opportunity to increase its support and vote share in the state. DMK will not worry too much until the next Lok sabha elections. The state Congress will not give any problem as long as DMK returns the favour to the cental government.

All the Best to the new government! Let us hope that TN will progress further under the new leadership.

ADMK has not fallen back too much. The difference in vote share between the winning alliance and the losing alliance is only about 5%. They have a strong opposition in Assembly. I hope they will act as responsible opponents, supporting the government in good schemes and raising their voice when the government is not doing the right things. The people of TN has not allowed the ruling party to retain power in any elections after MGR passed away.

The new entrant to TN politics is actor Vijayakanth. Congrats to him for winning the Vriddhachalam constituency. His party also has won a considerable amount of votes. We need to wait for another 5 years to see where he will progress from here.
