Suggest Station Names for Downtown Line MRT Stage 2 (DTL2)

By
Downtown Line MRT Stage 2 (DTL2) will connect Bukit Panjang to the heart of the city, passing through Bukit Timah. DTL2 will extend from Bugis station of the under-construction six-station DTL1 line to Bukit Panjang. DTL2 is expected to add another 16.6 km to the MRT network and will comprise of one depot and 12 stations. DTL2 will provide three interchange stations at Little India, Newton and Botanic Gardens. The three stages of the Downtown line DTL1, DTL2 and DTL3 are estimated to be ready by 2013, 2015 and 2016 respectively.

With the recent announcement of the alignment and station locations of DTL2, working names based on station location are being used for ease of reference. Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore is now seeking feedback and ideas from the public on the official names for these stations, with the exception the three interchange stations at Little India, Newton and Botanic Gardens as these are the official station names. The depot is named as Gali Batu Depot. The names of the stations along DTL2 are as follows:

  • Petir (Will serve as an interchange station between Bukit Panjang LRT and Downtown line)

  • Cashew

  • Hill View

  • Beauty World

  • Blackmore

  • Sixth Ave

  • Duchess

  • Botanic Gardens (Official Name, Will Serve as an interchange station between Circle Line and Downtown Line)

  • Stevens

  • Newton (Official Name, Will Serve as an interchange station between North-South Line and Downtown Line)

  • Little India (Official Name, Will Serve as an interchange station between North-East Line and Downtown Line)

  • Rochor
To take part in the station naming exercise and submit your preferred station name(s), please visit the Talk2LTA portal by clicking here. You have the option to keep the current working names or suggest new ones for as many of the nine stations. The closing date for suggestions is on 26 August 2008. LTA will collate all suggestions and short-listed names will be announced for public polling in September 2008.
