Wimbledon 2006: Leander Paes in the Semi finals

Men's Doubles: Leander Paes/ Martin Damm has reached the semi-finals after a tough 5-set match against the 4th seed Paul Hanley/ Kevin Ullyett. The match lasted for more than 4 hours (253 minutes to be precise). LP/MD beat PH/KU 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2. The first 4 sets had to be decided in tie breaks. But, in the final set, LP/MD prevailed comfortably. In the whole match, LP/MD faced only one break point and they were broken at that point. The match was very close, with LP/MD winning 180 points compared to 172 points by their opponents. LP/MD match was put into shadow by a far more tougher quarter-finals match where Mark Knowles/ Daniel Nestor beat Simon Aspelin/ Todd Perry in an epic battle which lasted for more than 6 hours. The score was 5-7, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 23-21 and just the last set alone took about more thatn 3 hours to complete. Next, LP/MD will face the 6th seeds Fabrice Santoro/ Nenad Zimonjic in the semi-finals now, who had a relatively easy outing against the 2nd seeds Jonas Bjorkman/ Max Mirnyi.

Mixed Doubles: In the mixed doubles quarter-finals, LP/Samantha Stosur were upset by Bob Bryan/ Venus Williams in straight sets 6-7, 3-6. Sania Mirza/ Pavel Vizner also lost in the third round to Daniel Nestor /Elena Likhovtseva 3-6, 7-5, 2-6. Thats the end of Indians challenge in the mixed doubles.

Boys/ Girls: Sanam K Singh lost in the Boys Singles 3rd round. Rupesh Roy (Ind)/ Hsin Han Lee (TPE) are in the Boys doubles quarter-finals and they will face the 3rd seeds next. Sanaa Bhambri (Ind)/ Wing Yau Venise Chan(HKG) also lost in the 2nd round of the Girls doubles.
