Wimbledon 2006: Day 4

uSania's poor streak continues. In the first round of Wimbledon, she lost to Elena Dementieva in straight sets 7-6, 7-5. As the scoreline suggests, the match is very close. Sania has won 71 points compared to Elena's 82 points. There are lots of break points, as many as 13 service breaks.

More shocking news is Mahesh Bhupathi/ Alexander Waske pair lost to the unseeded pair of Frederic Niemeyer/ Glenn Weiner in the first round. The score line is 7-6(2), 6-3, 7-6(7).

Leander Paes/ Martin Damm pair is also playing their first round match. At the time of this update, the match is still in progress. The first set went to tie break. LP/MD won the first set in the tie-break 7-4 and about to start serve in the second set.

The mixed doubles draw is announced. Leander Paes plays with Samantha Stosur of Australia and they are the 4th seed. Mahesh partners with Chinese Zi Yan and are seeded No.11. Both teams have first round byes. Sania Mirza is playing with Pavel Vizner of Czech Republic and are unseeded. They will be facing the pair of Fernando Verdasco/ Anabel Medina Garrigues from Spain in the first round. All the three teams featuring the Indians are in the bottom half of the draw.
